Engulf

Engulf is a series of slide and overhead projections which aim to depict a relationship between life and death in an image. The work explores flowers cultural function, and their representation of death, as well as living and growing mould. The definition of engulf is to; sweep over (something) so as to surround or cover it completely. The images are crated by burying negative slides in the soil. The soil creates an ideal environment for micro-organisms to grow and begin to mould the slides. The moulding process removes any residual prettiness or suggestion that the flowers had before and replacing it with the uncomfortable processes of death that has began. My starting point was my interest in how things decay and expanding that into the regrowth of these decaying objects. I am always fascinated in the patterns and textures that these actions have on different objects.
