I Was and I Was Not
I Was and I Was Not is a body of work centred around ideas of entropy, disorientating psychedelic experience and altered states of consciousness. Entropy is of course, a lack of order or predictability, a gradual decline into chaos. Entropy is applied here in the context of states of consciousness and their associated neurodynamics, with a particular focus on the psychedelic state. This body of work is comprised of a series of screenprints on card. The screenprint itself is now synonymous with the psychedelic counterculture of the late 1960s and has been employed in this work as an ode to that wave of psychedelic influence. Using an abstract, monotype printing method, this work aims to show this state of decline through layering and dissolving imagery.
