Gaia
“Gaia” is a three-part film which explores the undefined relationship between humans and the planet earth. Partly based on the work of scientist and environmentalist, James Lovelock, this film begins by examining the impact of one particular structure on its surrounding landscape. Atlantic Mills Ltd produced, dyed and finished denim on the border of Longford and Roscommon from 1979 until its closure in the year 2000, leaving a long list of environmental incidents and impacts in its wake. This film also features a lecture by Lovelock outlining his Gaia Theory. This theory describes the earth as functioning like an organism and we, humans, only participants in its planetary-scale homeostasis.
