Susceptible

‘Susceptible’ records the process of touching, marking and manipulating clay using my body. The definition of susceptible is; ‘likely or liable to be influenced by a particular thing.’ I am interested in exploring the way materials are read in a particular context and questioning their significance in a different setting. The work questions the context in which materials already exist, and challenges their meanings by creating new forms of interaction. Activities of pressing, gripping, squishing, pushing and shaping the clay with flesh are recorded through video. Traces of this use and movement are visible in the index of dirty marks on a white sheet.
