Avictery

‘Avictery’ is a five-screen video installation that explores the overwhelming amount of misinformation, conspiracies, rumours and fake news we receive through the media, which has been amplified with the use of the internet. Avictery is a synonym of the word ‘Truth’ (Veracity) which has then been manipulated and created into a new word to reflect the confusing and misleading information we receive. Avictery is made up of found footage retrieved from YouTube, and some original material screen recorded from online news articles and social media. This aims to highlight the importance of the reliability of our sources, with particular reference to current issues such as the misinformation being spread online during the referendum to remove the 8th amendment from the Irish constitution as well as the Cambridge Analytica Facebook data scandal and the ideas that Facebook posts were targeted and used to influence the decision of Brexit and the election of Donald Trump as the president of the United States of America.
