Thart Timpeall Orainn (All Around Us)
Thart Timpeall Orainn, is a film piece, accompanied by external sculpture works, that explores the bilingual landscape that is the public space in Ireland. The work will have both spoken Irish and English. The work aims to explore the viewer’s understanding of the Irish language. To bring attention to the co-existence of Irish and English in our society whether the viewer has a positive, negative or no opinion on the language, whether they are fluent or only have the “cúpla focal”. This work can be experienced differently depending on whether the viewer is fluent or has the “cúpla focal”. It aims to bring attention to how the language is integrated in everyday society, on public transport, on public buildings, road and traffic signs.
