x,y,z

My current work stems somewhat from ideas formed around space, its function and how we as viewers exist within it. Some of my thinking and thoughts on space and its function stem from the thinking of Brian Doherty, his writings, his works and offers of new ways on how to not just negotiate, but also think about the gallery space. The works of the American artist Fred Sandback who worked with elastic cord and acrylic yarn to delineate or bifurcate three dimensional space has also influenced my thought. My work, while acknowledging Doherty and Sandbank, stems from the importance of the line itself and the point in space at which it begins, point 0,0,0. Using mathematical formula I can not only create a three dimensional object, but I can also give you the exact point in space where that three dimensional object begins in both line and colour. The importance of these lines is denoted through the use of a ribcage which surrounds and protects the x,y,z.
