Carnegie Musical Academy

The brief for this project was to examine and transform an existing building into a Musical Academy for those who may be visually impaired or hard of hearing. After investigating into many buildings I thought would be suitable, I chose the Carnegie Centre located on Lord Edward Street, Dublin. I decided to base my concept on musical instruments. I wanted to create a number of spaces for those who may have a hearing or visual impairment to experience and to “feel” the music. I chose a lot of tactile materials and bright coloured fabrics to emphasis the perception of feeling throughout the space. The Carnegie Musical Academy seeks to engage and add to one's love and appreciation for music. Visitors of all ages are invited to come in and be inspired by the Concert Hall that is home to the Dublin's Carnegie Orchestra or to equally enjoy a relaxing meal in The Sixth Sense.
