Gilford Mill Retirement Village

When designing the Gilford Retirement home, I really wanted to create a place that was easily accessible to people of all abilities. When researching retirement homes and villages I came across a charity called “campaign for loneliness” their main aim was to try lower the number of lonely elderly people in the country. After reading about them I became inspired to include this idea of socialising in my project. My design then became circled around the idea of socialising for the elderly and began to include social areas such as a pool, a gym and a bar that I hope would allow the people living here to socialise with each other. The apartments in the building are mainly two or three bedrooms so to allow elderly people who usually live on there own to live together with their peers and create a more inclusive lifestyle.
