Spiras

Spiras is a device designed to allow the user to grow herbs and salad indoors.
The product utilises aquaponics as a way of growing herbs indoors without soil. Nutrient-rich water is pumped from the aquarium into the grow bed where it is absorbed by the roots providing the herbs with nourishment. Spiras uses 90% less water than conventional soil farming methods as water is recycled in a closed loop cycle.
Spiras is designed with a small footprint enabling people who live in urban areas access to nature and fresh produce.
The product is designed to promote positive mental health through interaction with nature. Interaction with nature in urban environments has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety levels while improving attention capacity.
Spiras is designed to provide this interaction to users without access to outdoor space whilst providing a small source of food.
