NUK

NUK is set of tools designed to facilitate fermentation in the home. Fermented foods have been produced and consumed since the development of human civilisations. Since the introduction of modern preservation techniques such as pasteurisation and artificial additives, fermentation has been rendered obsolete; but our bodies are feeling its absence. Not only does fermentation preserve food, it transforms it–boosting nutrient density by increasing bioavailability of vitamins and minerals and creating probiotics which are essential for maintaining a healthy gut. The gut is responsible for, among many things, 80% of our immunity, 90% of our serotonin production and 100% of our absorption of ingested nutrients. NUK provides all the tools necessary to start fermenting now and is accompanied by a smartphone application which helps the user on their journey. The contemporary yet primitive aesthetic pays homage to both the age of the practice and the scientific discoveries driving its revival.
