Salvage x
'Salvage x' is a body of work that evolved out of the discovery of an abandoned lifeboat, found on Sherkin Island, which came from the ill-fated Torrey Canyon oil tanker that foundered on rocks off the Scilly Isles in 1967, spilling her cargo of 100,000 tons of oil. This event, and the history of the lifeboat, which over time had become a repository for myriad forms of detritus, engine parts, rusting steel and kitchen sinks, became the methodology in which I explored themes of the environmental impact of the Anthropocene and the materiality of the object.
