Representation Through the Looking Glass
With the answer in the title, the third year CIVIC class present a seminar that surrounds issues of representation within the creative industries and visual culture. Named Representation through the looking glass, which is of course playing off of Louis Carrols book ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ we are discussing themes of race gender and sexuality and their representation in the creative industries, be it within television, sewing or music. And so in place of where Alice finds a Mad hatter and a racing rabbit we discover Racism, Sexism and Homophobia. As well as this we posit a hopeful message of a need for change and more consideration in regard to representation and inclusivity.
