Project 2: #Pause Campaign

Menopause doesn’t just affect those in their 40s and 50s. Perimenopause and ‘premature menopause’ can begin as early as your mid 30s. In spite of it directly affecting half the population, menopause remains a taboo subject to speak about in our society due to the lack of knowledge and dialogue. This can lead to misconceptions or shame among women, trans-men and non-binary individuals who are not going through menopause yet.

The aim of this project was to create a campaign that encourages starting a conversation about ‘menopause’. By pausing for a moment to speak about menopause, it helps break down social stigmas that surround the topic and makes the subject become the norm and not a taboo. To reposition menopause and highlight how its absence from mainstream media is detrimental to individuals, I created a safe space, Pause Cafe, where people can share or listen to others' experiences with menopause. Pause Cafe is an event that can be held by any coffee shop or group.
