Project 2: Urgent Biophilia

Urgent Biophilia is a term more prevalent than ever. It suggests that when humans, faced with a disaster, seek engagement with nature to further their efforts to summon and demonstrate resilience in the face of a crisis, they exemplify an urgent biophilia.

In a time of self isolation and social distancing nature has become more vital to our survival and sanity more than ever. People have a newfound appreciation of nature and the way in which a mindful stroll beneath open skies can put life’s stresses into perspective. The aim of the book is to communicate the idea of urgency and this human need to connect with nature in moments of uncertainty, this is achieved through the use of large unruly type and translucent paper giving depth and overlay to certain spreads adding to the chaotic essence of the book. Through the use of full bleed photographs depicting nature scenes it creates an immersive experience for the reader, allowing them to exemplify urgent biophilia.
