For my Major Project, I designed a display for Hickey's fabrics. I chose Hickeys for my work placement as I always admired their creative displays. I also really liked the idea of learning to work with fabrics. Having always been inspired by vintage fashion, I really wanted to incorporate it somehow into my final window display. I chose a 1960’s theme as I believe it was one of the most creative and innovative times for fashion. With the advice of my lecturers, I decided to devise a window based on the 1960s-feminist icon Gloria Steinem. I hand-made the dress to promote Hickeys’ sale, supply of fabrics, and achieve the desired effect. I chose posters from various protests throughout the decades to symbolise Steinem’s work as a feminist and activist from the 1960’s until the present day.
