True Wind is a documentary that follows Leonie, a 29-year-old woman from landlocked Kildare, as she sets out to sail across the Atlantic Ocean. The film is set in the coastal Cork town of Kinsale, where she lives on a tiny sailboat with her boyfriend and prepares for the dangerous journey ahead. The documentary highlights her fears and doubts as she contemplates the challenges of the upcoming voyage and weaves a social commentary around the financial constraints on under-30s Ireland. True Wind is a reminder of the power of determination and perseverance.
The film was selected to be shown at the Dublin International Film Festival’s First Frame program and won Film Documentary of the Year at the National Student Media Awards 2023
