The aim of the GradX project is to design a holistic visual identity for the TU Dublin Schools of Art, Design and Media Graduate Showcase 2023. This year, there is more diversity in the exhibition than ever before, with work from 10 different disciplines. The identity demonstrates a diverse collision of colour, type and image. The riot of colour communicates the collision of opinions and ways of thinking throughout the various disciplines, through a chaotic, and sometimes jarring, identity. This represents the juxtaposition between feelings of uncertainty for the future, and the freedom and excitement of the new possibilities that lay before the graduates.
The design concept aims to create a visual representation of the multifaceted nature of the exhibition, highlighting the range of ideas, perspectives, and creative expressions that emerge from the participating graduates. The conventional typeface Times New Roman is used in a very unconventional manner, set in a very large type size, disrupting the familiar. This departure from convention aligns with the exhibition's overall aim of promoting diversity, freedom of thought, and the exploration of new possibilities.
The identity is displayed across both print and digital media in the form of printed booklets, invitations, posters, a website, a social media campaign, and a wayfinding system.
Identity designed by Niamh Brennan, Duanna Taylor Rooney and Hannah Rottke Fitzpatrick.
