Inspired by the rich and diverse global history of DJing, the final year CIViC students held a public seminar entitled The Beat Goes On at The Bow Lane Social Club on Aungier Street in November 2024. The first part of the event included a screening of video essays and poster presentations on the history, practice and theory of DJing. The research considered DJing through lenses of class, gender and race. Topics included the spread of DJing beyond America to places including Ireland, the Balkans and Galicia, the role of drugs in DJing and the relationship of DJing to other subcultures such as Goth. In the second part of the event, there were DJ sets by local DJ’s Rían and Randy, Shü, and Stormo.
