Hi, Hanaa Janahi here, I’m a filmmaker with a deep passion for storytelling and its ability to spark emotion and conversations. Editing has been at the heart of much of my work in college. I love shaping narrative through pacing, rhythm and visual language. I find the creative problem-solving process exciting, discovering how scenes emotionally and structurally work best. I hope to continue developing my craft as an editor and pursue a career in post-production.
I had the privilege of writing and directing one of our final year films, which was one of the most valuable and insightful experiences, it fuelled my interest in directing and screenwriting. It is truly amazing bringing your story to life from the ground up and working with an amazing team to craft it.
I also have a burning passion for sports media. I completed my dissertation on the disparity in media coverage of Ladies Gaelic Football and I’m keen to combine the skills I have developed in the Film and Broadcasting course with my love of sport.
I bring passion, determination and enthusiasm to projects, and I look forward to developing my skills and working with others who also share a passion for telling authentic, emotional and underrepresented stories.
Small Change (2025)
– Writer and Director and Colourist
In first semester of final year my original script was selected for production, an opportunity I was so excited to undertake. Small Change is a drama that tells the story of a young girl who takes things into her own hands to offer her mother a moment of joy during a tough time. It is a feel-good story about childhood innocence.
Directing Small Change was truly the most rewarding experience. I was involved from development to postproduction, shaping aspects from performance to visual tone. Working with our young lead was a particular highlight, guiding her through the scenes was an amazing experience, where I learned so much about communicating.
The inspiration for the film came from observing quiet acts of love and sacrifice in everyday life. Rooted in the often-overlooked sacrifices parents make for their children, I was drawn to the idea of a child taking on adult responsibilities out of care for a parent.
As a director, I really wanted to foster a positive set environment that encouraged creative expression, open communication and collaboration, where all cast and crew felt supported and able to do their best work. This project deepened my understanding of collaboration, leadership and trusting the process.
