I’m a Dublin-based film and theatre maker from Waterford with an artistic focus on experimental mediums with my time in TU Dublin spent largely in Art Department roles. My writer-directing role was a surrealist piece called ‘No One Slept on the Beach this Year’ which debuted in the Cult Collective film screening at the Watergate Theatre in Kilkenny and was part of the Galway Generation Fleadh. My most recent work was in directing and designing a production of Little Women with the Drama Society and completing the Lir Academy Theatre Directing short course. I’m also a writer with a feature writer position at the up-and-coming Ethereal Magazine where I’ve published essays, poetry and illustrations. Currently I’m set to shoot another surrealist short film called ‘Girls are from Venus’ this June and an original play called ‘Love’s Nest’ to be mounted in September.

This project takes the cake in terms of costume and production design. Beyond the general communication with crew and actors, clearing of items and repositioning of props, the key aspects I worked on were men’s costuming and the television advertisement props. This involved creating the fictional company’s logo and giving a box of cupcakes an Old Nancy’s makeover as well as sourcing the other props used for the scene. For the men’s costuming I accessorised and altered costumes, sourcing and returning all the shirts. On set I dressed the couch and assisted with set dressing the kitchen. Most of the work came in the pre-production as preparation was paramount to a project like this. The effort put into the art department on this project came from many fronts and without the many hands it wouldn’t have been achievable. Communication and collaboration were as important as artistic creativity.
