I am a final year student of TU Dublin’s Film and Broadcasting programme. During the course of my degree, I have become proficient in many of aspects of filmmaking. I chose to specialise in Drama as I love storytelling and screenwriting allows me to explore that. Over the last four years, I have been a director, editor, director of photography, producer, and more across a variety of productions. Having the chance to experience every side of film production has helped me to determine where I’ve chosen to direct my focus. While I still enjoy writing, this course has allowed me to develop new interests, in particular, editing.
In the first semester of my final year, I was the director of photography on Mixed Signals. Here, I had the opportunity to draw out storyboards and meticulously plan shots, and I am delighted with the work I accomplished alongside the film’s director and producer. I also took on the role of second assistant camera on Small Change. This skill was utilised again in the second semester, where I was first assistant camera on Water Weight. As someone who has always been interested in the camera department, I felt very fortunate to get the opportunity to work within that department during both semesters. I also edited Meeting my Grandad, which was a very special project to be involved with, and I really enjoyed working through the post-production process with the director and producer to create a film we could all be extremely proud of. This year I also made an effort to seek out external editing projects, which has given me a sense of excitement for what’s to come in the future.
