Aoife Keeley is a visual artist whose work explores the social issues and cultural aspects of Ireland. Through the lens of television, her work looks at the current living conditions in Ireland and the political absurdities of governing.
The world of media is engaged by using cut and edited sources of preexisting found footage taken from digital archives. This found footage is combined with an original parodied show called Róisín and Finn. This explores Dublin through the eyes of felt-made puppets. Through the video the Irish language is used sparsely. This attempt at re-introducing the language situates the work within the post-colonial state that Ireland finds itself in. The use of Gaeilge is a subtle act of decolonization. The topics of tourism, transport and homelessness are exposed within absurd scenarios. The scenarios presented evoke the viewer to reflect on the current controversies within Ireland.
