My art is concerned with the historic fetishization of lesbians in media, counteracting its harmful irreverence with soft textile depictions of earnest lesbian love. The works draw on personal experiences of harmful lesbian stereotypes, reflecting on them while producing sapphic art absent of this egregious sexualisation. I use repurposed materials to further my works sentimentality. The concept of soft power and peaceful protest through textiles is central to the narrative of my work and choice of materials. My body of work is entitled Our Moment in Time. The primary piece is a textile fountain with two women at its centre. As one leans in for a kiss on the cheek, they forget about the tea in their hands which spills out to form the water. The fountain, Note and Locket exist within the same narrative, allowing the viewer to glimpse into a sapphic story unobstructed by objectification.
