Interior and Furniture Design

Kate Burton Stafford

My journey into interior design began with a love for textiles—their versatility and creative potential first drew me in. As I explored different areas of design, I became increasingly inspired by the way interiors influence how we live and feel. This led me to pursue full-time study, where I could focus on developing my skills and creative direction. I’m especially drawn to the relationship between colour, texture, and form, and I enjoy bringing these elements together to create spaces that are both functional and characterful. With hands-on experience in a fast-paced design studio and an enriching interior internship, I’ve built a strong foundation in both academic and practical design work. My portfolio includes projects across commercial, hospitality, and high-end residential sectors. Now, I’m excited to bring my passion and experience into a collaborative professional environment—contributing meaningfully while continuing to grow and learn as a designer.

- Mix Magazine Headquarters

For my thesis project, I transformed 24 Murray Grove in Hackney into the new headquarters for Mix Magazine, a publication renowned for its colour trend forecasting and influence in interior design. The goal was to repurpose the former residential space into a bold, multifunctional environment that reflects the magazine’s vibrant and forward-thinking identity. The design features editorial offices, flexible event zones, colour lab spaces, and material libraries—each intended to encourage creativity and collaboration. I drew from the magazine’s playful use of colour and texture, incorporating dynamic palettes, tactile surfaces, and bold contrasts throughout. Inspired by the creativity and expressive spirit of Mix, I aimed to design a space that feels energising, functional, and characterful. This project allowed me to explore how a physical space can reflect a brand’s ethos while supporting the day-to-day needs of a modern, design-driven team.
