My name is Mandy. I am an Interior and Furniture Design student from TU Dublin. I am majoring in Furniture Design as I have always been passionate about furniture making. Throughout the four years of studying in TU Dublin, I got to learn a lot about materials, colour theory and especially craftmanship. I learned how to use different software for my projects. My experience in Interior and Furniture Design has helped me learn what my personal style is, and I look forward to further progressing my skills in my professional career as a designer.
The concept for this design was inspired by the 1956 House of the Future by Alison and Peter Smithson. They imagined what homes will look like 25 years into the future. The couple's progressive thinking combining minimalism and multifunctionality of the house became the principles behind this design.
Blade (name inspired by science-fiction movie, Blade Runner) is a standing light, which also functions as a room divider. It features a clean, minimal look with a reflective and glossy finish, giving a sense of modern yet futuristic look. It can be used as a singular standing light or attaching multiple standing lights in different ways to create a sculptural piece. Blade standing light is installed with LED lights, behind 3mm opal acrylic sheets to diffuse a soft ambient light.
