Interior and Furniture Design

Sarah Marica

Hi, I’m Sarah, and I’m passionate about design - especially how it shapes and enhances our everyday lives. I’m deeply inspired by the spaces we inhabit and the objects we interact with, which naturally led me toward interior and furniture design. While minimalism is very much in vogue, I’ve always found myself drawn to the softness of curved lines and the beauty of organic forms. There’s something inherently calming and human about them. This fascination became the foundation of my written thesis on biophilic design, where I explored how reconnecting with nature through design can improve our well-being. That opened a new path for me, inspiring my furniture projects to reflect the essence of nature - fluid, imperfect, and alive. I believe good design doesn’t just look beautiful; it feels right, it nurtures, and it invites connection. That’s the kind of design I strive to create.

Walnut Coffee Table

This walnut coffee table is a refined example of biophilic design, merging natural materiality with organic form. CNC-machined layers of curved patterns carve into the rich walnut surface, creating gentle, flowing contours that mimic natural topographies or erosion. The depth and rhythm of these carved layers evoke a tactile sense of nature, inviting touch and curiosity. Walnut, with its warm tones and intricate grain, amplifies this connection, grounding the table in earthy elegance. The piece is not only functional but sensorial, engaging sight and touch in a subtle, nature-inspired experience. Through digital craftsmanship, the organic meets the precise, embodying biophilia not through imitation, but through abstraction and texture. The interplay of shadow and grain within the curves deepens the visual field, echoing nature’s complexity and calm. This table becomes a quiet focal point - contemporary, yet rooted in the innate human desire to feel connected to the natural world

Walnut and Metal Matching Nightstands

These walnut and metal nightstands exemplify a thoughtful blend of natural material and sculptural precision, inspired by biophilic design. CNC-engraved curved patterns ripple across the walnut fronts, evoking natural landscapes. When placed together, the patterns align seamlessly, forming a continuous visual rhythm that speaks to unity and flow. Yet when separated, each nightstand holds its own identity - functional, grounded, and expressive. The black-metal legs contrast the warmth of the walnut, adding a structural clarity that enhances the organic carvings. This duality - organic form and industrial structure - embodies a modern biophilic ethos: harmony through contrast. Whether paired or apart, the nightstands maintain a strong presence, offering depth, tactility, and balance. They are more than storage; they are quiet statements of form and connection, drawing on nature’s patterns to bring calm and continuity into the bedroom space.
