My name is Katie, and I have a passion for telling people’s stories and uncovering the truth. After taking a break from my studies, I’m excited to be back and delve back into the world of journalism. I was drawn to journalism as it is a way to connect with people from all different paths in life and find hidden truths. I’m eager to develop the skills I’ve learned in college and bring them into the working world and make contributions to the world of journalism.

Love, Lust & Lab Results

‘Love, Lust & Lab Results’ is an audio documentary that delves into the world of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and those affected by them.
STIs are a growing public health concern in Ireland, with recent trends showing increases in cases of Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, and Syphilis, particularly among young people.

Despite the rising figures, stigma and misinformation continue to surround STIs, often preventing people from seeking testing and feeling ashamed. This toxic culture of shame surrounding STIs is a health hazard. Openly discussing STIs is essential to breaking the stigma, and this is what ‘Love Lust & Lab Results’ is about.

Education and honest conversations help normalise sexual health as an important aspect of overall well-being, reducing shame and promoting early intervention and treatment. In this audio documentary Dr Aisling Loy discusses the medical aspect to STIs, and Conor and Alice discuss their experience having Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea.

‘Love Lust & Lab Results’ aims to empower people to openly discuss STIs and not be ashamed of their sexual health, learn about STIs and how to reduce the spread of infections across the country.
