Adam Tucker

I’m Adam Tucker, a photographer based in north Dublin with a practice rooted in narrative storytelling through the combination of image and text. I’m interested in creating layered works that explore memory, place, movement, and personal history, often incorporating textual elements such as interviews, archival material, and creative writing. For image making I draw from documentary, street, and collaborative photographic styles, while literary and archival influences broaden the possibilities for each project. Through this approach, I work to create reflective and open-ended projects that invite multiple readings and encourage a personal connection with the viewer.

Misadventure

Misadventure explores the aftermath of the death of the artist’s uncle. Moving between photographs and text, the work reflects on grief, family, and absence. Situated between a novella and a photobook, the project constructs a multistranded narrative shaped by memory, documentation, and imagination. The work draws from personal diaries, photo-elicitation processes, observational notes, archival references, and literary influences.

It's visual language combines carefully composed medium-format photographs with snapshots and altered archival imagery, tracing a pursuit of reflection and reconnection. This intimate narrative of personal loss, situated within a broader Irish context of family, estrangement, and addiction, invites viewers to project their own experiences onto its layered form.

We are all the rocks and ruins and tides of this place

We are all the rocks and ruins and tides of this place is an exploration of the seaside town of Balbriggan in north Dublin. Once a site of ruins dating from the War of Independence, the town transmits the memory of destruction, dereliction and reconstruction through both its old and new sites. It is now one of Ireland’s fastest growing and youngest places and due to significant rejuvenation efforts, it is being rebuilt and improved to accommodate its rapid growth.

The generation to which I belong has experienced their growing pains in tandem with those of this place. Through a series of intimate portrait-making sessions and semi-structured interviews, I worked with my photographed persons to explore their relationship, history, and personal connections here.
