The Solas Pulse

The Solas Pulse is a compact, water-resistant heart rate monitor specifically designed for maritime search and rescue (SAR) teams. Engineered for use in extreme conditions, it solves the critical issue of detecting a victim’s pulse when freezing temperatures numb rescuers’ hands and constrict the victim’s blood vessels—rendering traditional touch-based methods and oximeters ineffective. Using infrared photoplethysmography (PPG) sensors, the Solas Pulse allows volunteers to accurately assess a victim’s condition without physical contact, enabling faster, more informed medical responses. Its rugged construction ensures durability in harsh environments, while its portability guarantees ease of deployment during high-pressure rescue missions. Developed in close collaboration with active SAR personnel, the device responds directly to the unique medical and operational challenges faced at sea. Ultimately, improving rescue efforts by reducing delays and misdiagnosis, giving victims a better chance of survival and rescuers greater confidence.
