Product Design

Milan Kalita

Hi, I’m Milan Kalita, a graduating product design student with a desire for creating thoughtful, user-centered and functional solutions. Throughout my academic journey, I’ve explored how design can respond meaningfully to everyday problems, which is showcased in my final year project. I enjoy prototyping, sketching and iterative testing to develop products that are appealing, practical and purposeful. My work for this year focused on sustainable, wellbeing and behavioral change design, and I’m driven by the desire to make a positive impact through design. For the final year project, I’ve developed ideas and skills that reflect my values as a designer. I’m excited for the next steps ahead and will continue creating meaningful experiences through design.

SmileO

This project is an innovative oral hygiene system designed to promote healthy brushing habits in children through positive reinforcement, interactive design, and digital integration. The product aims to reduce bad oral care practices in primary school children and support lasting hygiene routines in a joyful, motivating and empowering way. SmileO is a smart oral health product that combines a smart toothbrush holder and a mobile application for the parents to use and see the progression data of their child’s interaction with SmileO. SmileO is placed in a bathroom environment alongside the toothbrush holder, for an enjoyable, interactive and engaging oral care routine experience. SmileO uses dentist recommended oral care techniques and tips and that teaches young users about what it means to have good oral hygiene, through an interactive display and customizable physical collectible control dial that children can earn or purchase as rewards for consistent oral care behavior.
