PAW Tactile Wayfinder: An Innovative Navigation Solution for Acquired Visual Impairment

With the global rise in acquired visual impairment due to aging, traditional aids like white canes and guide dogs struggle to meet growing demand. The steep learning curve of white canes and limited guide dog availability—further intensified by COVID-19—leave many without timely support, particularly those with progressive vision loss.

The PAW Tactile Wayfinder addresses these issues through intuitive navigation. Its innovative 360-degree tactile button clearly indicates directions via subtle feedback, enabling effortless orientation without heavy auditory reliance. Integrated ultrasonic sensors detect obstacles within 1.5 meters, providing stronger vibrations as users approach hazards for safe mobility.

PAW’s landmark storage lets users record unmarked obstacles or signs, ensuring smoother future journeys. A companion app further allows comfortable review of past travels via voice commands at home, reinforcing route familiarity.

Named "PAW," it symbolizes emotional reassurance and reliable guidance, echoing guide dog companionship. PAW redefines independence and mobility for individuals experiencing visual impairment.
