My name is Oisín. I am a product designer from Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.
Throughout my undergraduate degree of Product Design in TUDublin, I have showcased skills in design-thinking, communication, and problem-solving. I am passionate about creating solutions that inspire learning, curiosity, and playful interaction. I prefer taking a hands-on approach to design, through interactive prototyping and user feedback to develop products that focus on users’ needs.
From studying abroad, I further developed user experience design skills through Windesheim University, Zwolle, and an internship with Goliath Games, the Netherlands. This sparked my interest in the intersection between play, education, and design. This led to my final year project being committed to create a tactile learning resource linked to Irish history that promotes social play, learning, and collaborative discovery.
A primary school classroom presents challenges for both students and teachers. Time constraints often limit engaging activities, leading to a reliance on notetaking and textbook-based methods. These traditional approaches can be ineffective, particularly for students with learning differences, in fully conveying key subject skills.
Social interaction also plays a vital role in children's development, however increasing screentime, isolated play, and overuse of educational technology are contributing to declining social skills.
Chrono Connect is a learning activity resource for students aged 10–12 to better engage with the Irish history curriculum through a cooperative boardgame. It promotes playful, socially interactive learning without depending on technology. The game encourages teamwork, with players in groups of 2–4 working together to apply history-based knowledge and skills to answer question cards, rebuild timelines, and earn points. Chrono Connect offers a tactile, interactive way to bring history to life in the classroom while supporting inclusive learning.
