Ignite Cookstove

The Ignite Cookstove is a biofuel stove that addresses the issue of Household Air Pollution (HAP), caused principally by burning biofuel for cooking and heating, in developing countries.

Worldwide, 2.6 billion people depend on burning biofuel. Exposure to HAP causes serious long-term health effects, from heart issues to respiratory disease and burn injuries (to which children are particularly vulnerable). HAP causes 3.2 million deaths annually in these communities.

The research and design process behind the Ignite Cookstove was culturally and socially responsive to the lives of potential users. It is designed to be manufactured within local communities where it will create employment. To facilitate the adoption of the cookstove, an education programme that respects cultural and traditions norms will raise awareness of the dangers of HAP.

The Ignite Cookstove significantly reduces HAP levels, improves safety for families and increases fuel efficiency by 90% compared to traditional cooking methods.
