Macha is a neurodivergent queer, multi-disciplinary visionary ritual artist based and from Cork.
Their artistic practice bridges performance, sound and film. Their artistic concerns lie with, radical and eco feminism, indigeneity, ecology, and the obvious concern that dis-members all the above – Capitalism and Colonialism.
The art practice is intuitive and derives from a felt sense encapsulated in film or live performance, delivered by the body, voice, sound, words, and the environment in which it resonates.
Macha’s background in performance which derived from folk/contemporary dance, contemporary circus and music medicine production is influential to their visual art practice today.
Their personal journey as a woman with a different view has inspired the practice to continue even when the challenges are REAL. Macha is most inspired to change the perspective of presence by being present, allowing the art of subjects to speak. “Conception to Death, the in-between is for BEING” Macha.
The journey on which the woman, stands for truth, the woman who rises back from the lost power, the woman who has once was and the women to come after.
“The Trial of the Cornered Keen”– Came for the call to speak louder for the grief of women who are still holding. The shaman in all women the witch in all women and the power of radical and eco feminism today to change the patriarchy of the future. This work is a film installation, a 9-minute triple circular loop of sacred & ritual reference and symbolism not only symbol but a personal practice, reminding those who see a heretic, fear is real because the power of the feminine is in the prayer.
The work is intuitive led with its own power and its own trusting knowing VOICE.
The “Keen” is a old Irish tradition of women in Ireland.
A beacon for sovereignty a call to the womb and witch, the wounded ancestral people who walk the lands of Éiru.
The fire that we see so rare is here and present, it is the reflection of the fire that resides inside each body, we are welcomed to feel warmth, feel fear, give presence, to allow hope , to release rage to feel empty and full. Fire is still today a element only appreciated in glimpse of a candle, or in a distant range, how to honour the element that we have evolved from, in a country, a culture has circled around – Re-membering the medicine and giving thanks – Reciprocity.
A living fire installation/ performance on the coastline of Sherkin Island.
Interactive 1 hr installation for public to have the encounter with the medicine of Fire/ Tine.
