Hi, I’m Emilia, a VisCom student with a passion for storytelling through visual media such as moving image, photography, and illustration. What I love about these creative endeavors is the way they are able shift my perspective and expand my mind. Outside of my creative practice, you’ll probably find me on the fencing piste or a tennis court. Both sport and creativity have always been integral parts of my life, each influencing the other in unexpected ways. I’m excited to see how they continue to shape the way I think, create, and connect with the world around me, and how these two passions will evolve together in my future work.
Fragments of Friendship is an audio-visual piece that invites viewers to reflect on their own relationships, inspiring them to feel, question, and reimagine the meaning of friendship across time and lived experience. Through footage drawn from my personal video archive, I asked friends and family what friendship means to them and how, if at all, it can be measured. Their responses, recorded as voiceovers, unfold a narrative that moves through time prompting the question: how does our understanding of friendship evolve with age? Each person offers a unique response, shaped by their values, experiences, and needs, making friendship a profoundly subjective and personal concept.
Alchemy of the Ordinary is a mixed-media animation and a personal reflection on the quiet rituals that shape my day. In an age of constant distraction, I’ve come to find deep comfort in ordinary moments, whether it's making matcha, walking my dog, lighting a candle, or journaling before bed. They are reminders to return to myself, to slow down, to notice. I chose mixed media, mainly combining printed photographs with crayon and paint, to mirror the textured, layered rhythm of daily life. The colourful marks act as traces of presence and attention, expressing energy and emotion within seemingly mundane moments. Through this process, I wanted to portray ordinary rituals as vibrant, exciting, and full of life.
