Visual Communication

Faye Burke

I’m Faye Burke, a Visual Communications graduate with a love for design that tells stories and creates meaningful connections. I’m passionate about exploring themes like memory, place, and history, often through tactile, research-driven projects that unfold slowly and invite curiosity. My style leans toward thoughtful typography, structured layouts, and a soft, quiet aesthetic that reflects the care I put into the details. Print is my preferred medium, I love the physicality of books, maps, and guides, and how they can become keepsakes or tools for discovery. For me, design is about more than visuals; it’s about shaping experiences that feel personal, grounded, and intentional.

The Garden County: Where Nature Blooms in Every Corner.

This project is a printed guide to County Wicklow, known as Ireland’s “Garden County,” exploring its layered identity through gardens, history, and biodiversity. Drawing from archival research, historical maps, and site-specific narratives, the design integrates typography, mapping, and storytelling to guide readers through Wicklow’s iconic landscapes such as Powerscourt, Glendalough, and Avondale. Each spread functions as a reference and reflection, using visual structure to mirror walking through nature. Inspired by a personal connection to Wicklow and a fascination with how place shapes memory, this work invites viewers to consider how landscapes hold cultural, historical, and emotional significance.

A Quiet History

A Quiet History is a personal visual essay that explores the layered past and quiet presence of Wicklow Head Lighthouse, a landmark I’ve lived beside my whole life but only recently came to understand. Combining photography, interviews with locals, and a hand-bound book, this project weaves together personal reflection and historical research into a visual narrative. The final publication is designed with a quiet, understated tone, echoing the steady resilience of the lighthouse itself. Through images, text, and design, A Quiet History invites viewers to slow down and reconsider how familiar places hold untold stories. The project mirrors the lighthouse’s journey, from early trials to its lasting presence, capturing not just its history, but its quiet impact on the landscape and on those who live beside it.
