The Autism Sibling Perspective

This publication focuses on my relationship with my autistic brother through the theme of the line. Autism is often described as a line or a spectrum. I looked at the line as a way for me to reflect on my relationship with my brother on the spectrum and how it’s more complex to navigate than an individual line going in a straight direction. Autism has had an impact on every aspect of my life, and I believe you learn so much about it when you live with an autistic person. The goal of this book is to give people insight on what autism is, with focus on my personal experience and what I have learned from my brother that’s made me the person I am today. I do this by reflecting on the different memories I have shared with him and documenting how I would converse with him.

meriTY (The Butterfly Collector)

This project is about exploring significance of objects through collection. Collectors spend their lives hunting down all kinds of items like stamps, coins, postcards and dolls. People collect for different reasons such as strengthening relationships, commemorating places they have travelled and the experiences associated with them. What might not seem significant to a wider group of people is invaluable to the collector themselves as it’s what they associate with their collectables. I looked at my girl guide badge collection I’ve accumulated over the last decade. They reflect all my guiding and travelling experiences with stories attached to each one. This inspired designing a badge collecting program for transition year students, a group outside of guiding and scouting organisations, as the year is all about trying new things and gathering different ephemera to show at their end of year graduation. This program can be completed through a booklet or an app format.
