The Student Design Awards are the world’s longest-running design competition and have been a cornerstone of fostering creativity and innovation for a century. The aim for this project was to create a captivating animation that not only celebrates the past award winners of RSA, but also enlivens the spirit of design, creativity and forward thinking that the RSA has championed over the last century. The animation to pays homage to the legacy of the student design awards and serve as a dynamic showcase of the evolution of design thinking and its impact on society throughout the years. It conveys the history in mark making and represents the process of design thinking. The communication objective fosters a deep appreciation for the rich heritage of the RSA Student Design Awards and inspires continued engagement, participation, and support for the next 100 years.
Rituals are more than just age-old customs or traditions passed down through generations. They’re the heartbeat of cultures, communities, and individuals. Some of the fundamental reasons why they hold such a pivotal place in our lives include connection to heritage, emotional healing, reinforcing community bonds, and catharsis. They are symbolic, repeated actions performed with intention and purpose, often reflecting the values, beliefs, and traditions of a community or individual. The animation brings to light the idea of a daily ritual as a form of motivation throughout the routines of the day. It will highlight the difference in what we do throughout our days to not just bring us happiness, but meaning and control as well as what is done to fill our time, keep our minds occupied and distracted from the idea of time passing against our control. By exploring the significance of consistent, intentional practices use d daily routines, this animation aims to inspire viewers to recognize the transformative power of these seemingly small actions as well as empower viewers to embrace the cultivation of meaningful rituals as a pathway to greater mindfulness, and fulfillment in their daily lives.
