Visual Merchandising

Julia Rzonca

My name is Julia Rzonca and I’m a Visual Merchandising student with a passion for fashion, design, and creativity. I’ve always loved expressing myself through art, which is what led me to choose this course. During my studies, I learned how to bring ideas from sketches to life through window displays and installations. I’ve also deepened my understanding of fashion styling and upcoming trends. This course has helped me grow more confident in my creative abilities and encouraged me to think outside the box. It’s been an inspiring experience, and I’m excited to keep exploring new ways to express my ideas and personal style through visual design.

Botanic Desire

This concept was inspired by my WGSN research on Sustainability & Innovation: Dye Challenges & Solutions. Aware of the environmental and health issues associated with chemical dyes, I created my own natural dyes using ingredients such as fruits and tea leaves.

I used these dyes to hand-paint the backdrop of my window display, recreating the design of the featured product. This not only brought a unique, organic aesthetic to the display but also demonstrated a practical application of sustainable innovation in visual presentation.

Fashion Costs Us Earth

For this display, I wanted to raise awareness about the environmental impact of fast fashion. This industry is one of the most damaging to our planet, contributing significantly to pollution, waste, and resource depletion. My goal was to create a shocking visual that would immediately catch the viewer’s attention and make them think. The window features a tree covered in blood, symbolizing the damage done to nature, with a white dress hanging from its branches dripping with blood. The dripping effect on the ground represents the ongoing harm and the cost of mass-produced fashion. Through this installation, I aimed to highlight the hidden consequences behind fast fashion and encourage more mindful, sustainable choices.
