My name is Kayleigh, I’m a 22-year-old Visual Merchandising student at TU Dublin. I have always had a passion for art and creating and found that vm really allowed me to show and express that side of me as well as learning loads and reaching goals I never would have thought of before. I had a great three years here making loads of friends, always growing as a person and preparing for my career and future. I’m excited to see what’s next!
This project was from an eyewear/head piece brief I did in 2nd year. It was inspired from Casa Batlló is a large and uniquely beautiful building in the heart of Barcelona. Designed in 1904 by famed Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. I had seen his work in person and fell in love with how it was made and how it flowed as well as his use of stained glass and colour so I knew I wanted to do a piece that was inspired by his work so I created this eyewear piece from a wire form covered in clay and moulded by hand with a light beige colour painted over, covered in greenery handing above a white plinth with vines wrapping around it. I piece I truly loved.
This was my major project concept used in the White Company where I did my work experience for the year. This concept was designed to be young and playful, drawing inspiration from The Little White Company kids line. The display featured a joyful scene of two children bursting into their mother’s room with toys, books, and games in hand—dressed in their seasonal summer pyjama’s, jumping on the bed, scattering pillows, and creating a lively, cheerful atmosphere. The colour scheme was aligned with the vibrant, youthful tones from the Kintentional palette, which complemented the energy of the children’s collection. Initially, the idea was to suspend a child mannequin from the ceiling to enhance the sense of motion and play.
