Project 2: Mental Health Centre
This project is a design proposal of a Mental Health Centre in Clondalkin, Dublin 22. Due to the rising cases regarding mental illness to young adults, and the alleged closure of Jigsaw Centre in Clondalkin, I decided to build and relocate the health centre. With the aid of the Universal Design (UD) principles, this is a place where people are supported and helped by professionals to fight the stigma against mental illness. The curvature of the River Camac, evident in the chosen location, inspired the overall concept of this project.
Following the UD seven principles, this Mental Health Centre caters to various selections of furniture designs and structures that accommodate all users regardless of their age, size, ability, or disability. Swimming and being in water are also found to help with relaxation; In response, a therapy pool that is designed for all is available for not only the patients but also the public. Keeping active is important but being mentally fit is also important.
