Music in Deaf Ears

As part of a personal project, I had worked on the ‘’Music in Deaf Ears’’ film and publication where which response to the prevalent question that may be asked by many;

What happened when music is part of the deaf culture?

It can often confuse some hearing people and deaf people. As the assumption is commonly by some hearing people who believe there is only one way to enjoy music, and that is by hearing to it. Yet this belief also influences some deaf people who would not expose themselves to music. However, as it is believed that music is not solely about hearing as it consists of sounds, vibrations, and silent moments, and it doesn’t always have to be pleasant or pretty. It can be used to communicates a whole range of experiences, environments, and emotions.

This project aim is to narrate a visual video of different forms of tactile experiences in music and showing the gaps of listening to music within the deaf community for both hearing and deaf audiences to encourage knowledge gains and understanding as a means of enriching their experiences. Along with it, a booklet of ‘’Music in Deaf Ears’’ accompanied the video.
