The Irish Goodbye

Saying Goodbye to friends and family right after they finish college is something so familiar to many around Ireland. Leaving your hometown and moving abroad to find better opportunities is almost a rite of passage for most generations of young Irish people. Talking to familiar faces through screens, knowing the exact time zone of a country nearly 10,000 miles away and having a few empty seats at the Christmas dinner table, is nothing new for most families across Ireland. What is it about this country that seems to push their own young people out? For her final year radio project, Sadhbh McDonnell sheds light on the reality of Irish youth emigration. Using individual stories she discusses the reasons behind each of their decisions to leave.
