Invisible Legacy is a short documentary that follows Fergal as he reflects on his move to Raheny in Dublin at the age of seven in 1972. His personal memories show how The Troubles bled into the driveways of suburban Dublin. Drawing on fragmented memories, the film highlights how the past can stay with a person for over fifty years. Among these recollections are the weeks in 1972 when Fergal’s family were almost evicted from their home, and he and his siblings were shunned by neighbours.
This film offers an insight into how the political tensions of the North affected those outside the conflict zone. Through Fergal’s firsthand account, we see how his parents’ involvement in The Troubles created not only childhood exclusion but a lasting emotional weight. This documentary does not aim to reveal new facts about The Troubles, but explores the emotional impact of being caught up in conflict.
