GradX Game Design

Rachel Appleyard

Heya, my name is Rachel, I am 21 years old and I studied Game Design in TUD. I always enjoyed playing games, and my love for computer science in secondary school is what brought me into this course. That love for programming did not last, as I fell in love with game design and game art.

Throughout my time in the college, I have focused mostly on game art, from 2D assets to 3D models. I enjoy the creative freedom that making games brings and hope to continue to make games in future. I have an interest in games marketing and have a job in games publishing lined up for after college. My role this year on Cardestia was creating all the 2D and UI art for the game, but I also chose the theming and the visual aesthetic of the game. The soft, pastel colours are something unique to the genre and it makes Cardestia stand out. Confront, a game I was a part of, just recently won runner up for Student Game of the Year at the annual IMIRT awards, and other games I have been a part of, such as Pitch It! and BattleClaws have been featured at GamerFest and Dublin Comic Con.
