My name is Amy Byrne, an interior design graduate with a passion for creating meaningful, impactful spaces. I have always been drawn to interior design as it offers a glimpse into how people live and how their environments shape their daily experience. My work focuses on finding the balance between aesthetics and function, with an appreciation for natural materials and the subtle, impactful textures they bring into a space. I believe every space should be more than visually appealing, it must be functional.
My internship with Collab Design Studios, gave valuable insight into the design and creation of joinery and bespoke furniture, while developing experience in communicating and refining ideas through discussions with clients. This strengthened my understanding of craftsmanship, detailing, and tailored design solutions. Winning the Universal Design Student Award in 2025 also influenced my approach, reinforcing my aim to enhance how people experience and interact with their environments through thoughtful, inclusive design.
Park House – Student Accommodation
For my final project, I transformed Park House on North Circular Road in Dublin into a vibrant, community-focused student living environment designed to support modern student life. The aim was to move beyond standard accommodation by promoting social connection, comfort, and wellbeing through thoughtful interior design. The scheme includes a café, study areas, social lounges, wellness spaces, and collaborative zones, alongside private living areas. Each space was designed to balance energy and relaxation, supporting both independent living and student interaction while encouraging a strong sense of community.
The design was strongly influenced by the building’s existing form, particularly its clean lines and vertical façade elements, which informed a structured and rhythmic interior language. To contrast the often plain feel of student accommodation, a bold colour palette was introduced, paired with warm woods and metal finishes. This combination creates a more vibrant, engaging, and energetic environment that enhances everyday student experience.
