GradX Journalism

Alex Brady

When it came down to picking my CAO choices, I was stumped. I didn't actually know if I would actually go to college. Even as someone with a love for writing, I never knew if journalism would be the right fit for me. I was the first person in my family to go to college, so I had no idea or expectations. After 4 years, I think I made the right choice.

Where Good Grows

Young teens are a very vulnerable group of people, at this stage of their development their lives can be extremely altered and not always for the best. Many of these young people in disadvantaged areas are negatively affected by socio-economic barring's and incidents. A lot of the anti-social behaviour you see related to areas like Darndale, North Inner City, Coolock and Tallaght. Ways to combat this are by providing these kids with extra curricular activities to help keep them off the streets, and falling through the cracks. Speaking to Alysia Arkins, Lead choreographer of Arkins Dance Academy, and Susan Hanlon, Project Manager of North Dublins largest youth service, they discussed the things they have seen and how they help young kids stay off the beaten path and achieve goals that they want.
