In journalism, my main area of interest is sports, which is reflected in my project about Ballymun United Football Club. Throughout this course, I have produced work across multiple media disciplines, including print, audio, and video, and have developed a particular interest in multimedia journalism. I would love to continue producing sports-related content after graduating and receiving my degree.
The Mun
The 'Mun is a documentary about Ballymun United Football Club. It looks at the history of the club, their importance to the local community and their future. Ballymun United transcends its title of just a football club, providing an important outlet for young people in the area to prosper in a positive and safe environment. While they currently compete in high-level amateur leagues, the club have ambitions of one day reaching the pinnacle of Irish football.
The lack of funding for grassroots football in Ireland is an issue that is constantly brought up in relation to the shortcomings of the Irish National Team. The idea behind this project was to highlight how the benefits of increased funding would run much deeper than that, massively benefiting local communities around the country too. Clubs like Ballymun United are a huge part of their community and do great work to support local young people, but many struggle financially and better funding for grassroots clubs would be a huge benefit to local communities as well as Irish Football.
