My name is Diarmuid, I'm a product design Graduate with a deep interest in creating meaningful solutions that truly solve user problems. Throughout my time in the Product Design programme, I have developed a variety of skills, including teamwork, research, testing, and decision-making. I enjoy building unique solutions that explore the human aspect of design to understand real needs and transform insights into products. I've had great opportunities to gain experience in the professional setting, learning the process of developing and finishing products from the ground up. I am excited to present my final year project and am eager to enter the professional world.
Fia: Motivating behavioural change with emotional connection
Fia is a physical and cognitive health support system designed for frail older adults to prevent deconditioning at home. It combines a wearable activity sensor and a smart planter, accompanied by a carer app to communicate visible feedback and predict potential issues in routine. The concept uses an emotional connection to the plant to make healthy routines more engaging, while also aiding carers and clinicians in monitoring the change in routine at home. Fia aims to reduce deconditioning, support independence, and make home recovery activities more manageable.
